I'm an avid BTRFS user and I've just started using Beets, it's going well so far and it's solving a problem I've had in my workflow for a long time and it's solving it really well. Whilst reading the docs I noticed the duplicates plugin, and while I'm not entirely sure it does what I'm about to describe, I can still see this being a very useful tool.
Getting to the point, BTRFS allows you to merge parts of files together (reflinking) and I believe that beets already supports this when importing, however it would be cool if beets (whether through the duplicates plugin or another plugin) could take those duplicates and whether using reflinking or just btrfs' cow nature, combine the two files whilst maintaining separate tags and metadata. This way the duplicity of the file is maintained with it taking up no extra space.
I have a fair few compilation albums in my library which have tracks that are also in other albums. This seems like a nice way to save space rather than duplicating the tracks wholesale.
I'm not sure how well I've explained what I mean so if anyone wants me to clarify something then please let me know!
