I made a similar post to this in the past but this one is more based on realizations I have noticed about Debian based users specifically.
I would like to be able to keep up with newest versions of Polyphone as they come out, but with my current setup and Polyphone binary packages offered it does not seem possible at all. I would imagine I am not the only one experiencing this, as Debian / Debian based distros are fairly common, so this could be helpful to many users.
In the past I had originally brought up the idea of offering an AppImage which seemed like the perfect format, but you mentioned there was no interest in doing so.
I had then mentioned about maybe offering binary .deb file for Debian based distros but you mentioned that you did not have access to Debian based systems to do so, only Ubuntu or in general the desire to make packages for all distros.
On the downloads page of Polyphone website there are now many formats available, even Raspberry Pi.
I do not think any of these would work for Debian based users, I personally do not have an interest in using Flatpaks located on other sites/generated by random users.
I am not that experienced at compiling but I attempted the compile instructions located on Polyphone website that were for compiling for Ubuntu. I was not able to get this to work and I made post on forum but no one knew what it could be.
Even if the thought is that Debian based users will have to wait every 2 years for newer versions, this does not appear to be true either. Debian has been stuck on Polyphone version 2.2.2 for a while now and there is something that is included in Polyphone code that is preventing them from wanting to update to newer versions (Cannot remember the reason, but I do remember reading about this somewhere)
Debian "Trixie" the "Testing" version that is going to become stable version in a few months shows older version and even Debian "Sid" is still using 2.2.2 as well.
I understand do not want to have to make packages for each Linux version, but it appears that based on the observations I have mentioned above that Debian based users will not have any access to newer versions of Polyphone ever?
I have not seen any other users mention anything about this, but seems strange, I cannot be the only Debian based user of Polyphone.
I was just wondering if there was something that I am overlooking?
If not I was wondering if there is anything that can be done in the future to make newer versions of Polyphone available for Debian based users as well.
Thank You
