Steps to reproduce

OS: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS x86_64
Kernel: 6.11.0-19-generic
Elemet desktop is installed via official packages at https://packages.element.io/debian/ default main

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open element desktop
  2. Start video call
  3. Select Element Call (Beta)
  4. Join call
  5. Share screen
  6. In share content menu select Share entire screen
  7. A Ubuntu window opens to select a screen "Element wants to share your screen. Choose what you'd like to share.
  8. In Ubuntu window, select screen and click share, the Ubuntu window disappears
  9. In Element window (Share content), the screen doesn't become available
  10. The Ubuntu window appears again
  11. Click cancel in Ubuntu window -> Element crashes reliably

Outcome

What did you expect?

Ideally, full-screen sharing should work
At least, a failure to capture the screen shouldn't crash element but the error should be handled gracefully

What happened instead?

Element crashes

Sidenote

Sharing individual windows does work, full screen sharing doesn't work.

Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS x86_64

Element version: 1.11.94 Crypto version: Rust SDK 0.9.0 (5de53c7), Vodozemac 0.8.1

I tried this on Fedora Workstation 41 / Wayland with Element installed as Flatpak and it crashes for me too.
