First, thank you for your kind comments. Homebrew is, and always will always be, free and open-source software. We are licensed under a 2-Clause BSD license, so we have no ability (or desire) to restrict usage of the project's code. All of our maintainers have jobs outside Homebrew. We're not a business, we're a volunteer run project which wants to make the world better for our users. We do have generous organizational and individual sponsors which you can see in our README. |

Hey guys I just wanted to say that first of all Homebrew is an amazing project and I don't know what all of us Mac users would do without it. So thank you. And speaking of that I am really disturbed to find out that Google wouldn't even hire the inventor of Homebrew which makes me think that like many other freemium softwares out there you might want to take on a model where it's free for individual use and charges per seat for companies that can afford it.
I'm sure Google, for example, already spends tens of millions if not more on seats for software such as content management systems and Salesforce and jira and all of that and there's no reason that you guys should have to just work based on donations.
Your product is excellent and you deserve to be treated with respect and be paid by these big companies that literally depend on your software.
I hope you guys take that into account and change your policy so you can make some money from this and get paid to do the work that you're now doing for free. I think that big companies are taking advantage of your commitment in generosity. Fact is they don't need it and they don't deserve it.
Cheers
