Using alternative build backends

According to the documentation, it seems like it should be possible to set build-backend = "something else" and then have poetry use that backend when running poetry build.

However, in my testing it looks like poetry build always uses the Poetry backend.

A search through the code appears to confirm that poetry.core.masonry.builders.SdistBuilder & WheelBuilder are always used.

Not sure if this is a documentation issue, a bug, or (more likely) my misunderstanding.

without showing us an example what you have tried exactly, it's not possible what's going on. So please add one.

And yes, I realize this is dumb. I'm just saying that it should work, I think?

Works for me. What makes you think that it doesn't work for you? Keep in mind that this only works from Poetry 2.1 on.

Thanks, I was on Poetry 2.0. Just upgraded and it works beautifully now!
