Velero will supports creating volume snapshots in a different region from where other resources are located in other region

We're currently working on a project that involves backing up Persistent Volumes (PV) and Persistent Volume Claims (PVC) from one region and restoring them to another. However, I noticed in your documentation that it mentions this process is not supported. Despite that, I have come across some threads that suggest restoring PV and PVC could be possible.

Could you please check on this matter and provide us with guidance on how to proceed with the restoration?

Some snapshotting procedures velero provides do not support it. If you follow the linked issue and use only that method it could work.

Thank you very much for your reply. I am experiencing an issue when using the --snapshot-move-data command. It appears to be stuck in the state "WaitingForPluginOperations." I believe this may be affecting my efforts to achieve successful backup and restore processes for Redis through Velero.

Could you please take a moment to review the attached values.yaml file and advise on how to resolve this issue? Your expertise would be greatly appreciated as we work towards implementing Redis backup and restore functionality.

@kaovilai I wanted to reach out for assistance regarding a task I am currently working on. I have fixed the issues mentioned earlier and, while using the latest image, I have not encountered any plugin issues. Additionally, I found the snapshot movedata command to be particularly useful for taking backups.

However, I understand that some challenges arise when attempting to restore data from one region to another. Specifically, I am looking to know if it is possible to copy all data keys in order to restore only the keys in a different region. For context, we have 8 AKS nodes with their keys stored in various backups, and I would like to perform the restoration just for the keys in the destination.

I am currently looking into Redis keys restore and wanted to know if there is a specific command that allows me to take keys from a source and restore them to a destination without transferring any associated data.

I am not as familiar with Redis or these data keys.. velero backup workloads in a general manner. We do have pre/post hooks that you can use to trigger freeze/unfreeze on your database workloads etc.. however I do not have them for you.
