Switching tabs away from the text editor and back breaks connection

1. Open SCXML file
2. Open visual editor to the side
3. Activate the text editor tab
4. Create a new tab (or switch to another tab)
5. Adjust visual diagram

**EXPECTED**: changes affect the text document
**ACTUAL**: the visual editor no longer communicates with the text editor
