several tests are failing on Windows

The file size assertions fail when running the tests on Windows, but they pass on Unix-based systems. To make the tests cross-platform, instead of hard-coding the expected file sizes, we can dynamically determine size. If you're not currently working on this issue, I’d be happy to open a PR to fix it.
