Glossary

Hawaii often use a number of terms that are unfamiliar to Windows and Mac users and even other other Linux users.

This glossary tries to list all the relevant terms and their explaination.

F

  1. FLOSS - Acronym for Free/Libre/Open-Source Software.
  1. FOSS - Acronym for Free and Open Source Software.

U

  1. upstream - A FOSS project with an active and robust peer-review process.

The emphasis here is on "active and robust peer-review process" because basically, without peer review, there's no interesting difference between say a Debian package (what many people consider downstream) and a git repository hosted on Github (what people consider upstream).

There's no point saying "push this change upstream" if that just means it gets added to a git repository without robust inspection.
