Verified with ubuntu 22.04 using owncloud-client=4.0.0+oc-1089 from repositories. @dahlecr yes, only LDAP users are effected. Just preparing a new User for michaelstingl |
Windows client version 4.0.0 the same. If login on previous version and update client - everything ok. Try logging on new version and receive error above. |

I am experiencing the same problem and can provide additional information. The problem only occurs when using a LDAP user, in my case Owncloud is configured using Active Directory as authentication source. As shown in the OP's screenshot, the login prompt with the username is grayed out, containing a long string. It's the same string which is listed as username for Active Directory users. The LDAP user authentication plugin however is configured, to use samaccountname as login username, not the UID string. Since username is grayed out (you cannot change it) there is no way to login for you. This appears to be a bug with the Desktop Client, since the client persists using the string listed as username, instead of using the login username you specified, when configuring your settings. The problem does not occur, when using a non-LDAP user e. g. a local owncloud account.
I was using latest Owncloud client from website (ownCloud-4.0.0.10896.x64.msi) by the way, on a Windows 10 Pro 22h2 machine. |
I can confirm I experience the same problem. |
We where able to reproduce the error. |
Passed in ownCloud 4.1.0.11119-daily20230531 |
Is there any ETA for the release of the new Desktop Client 4.1? Thanks. BR |
You can already test-drive the latest 4.1 daily pre-release builds:
Here you find the remaining 4.1 issues: 4.1 RC1 is planned for next week. Final release after approval… |

Describe the bug
I installed the Owncloud client on my Ubuntu 22.04 linux desktop, following the advice here.
I started the owncloud client for the first time and filled in my server url and my username, password credentials.
The client starts and the Login Required dialog appears. The Username field does not contain my Username (it looks like a random string of alphanumeric+hyphen characters). It is greyed out so cannot be edited. Adding my password does not work (the username in the text box is wrong and cannot be changed)
Attempting to login using the Account button also leads to the Login Required dialog and the same problem.
Since I cannot login to the server, I cannot use owncloud to sync files, as intended.
Expected behavior
I expected that entering my login details would allow me to login to the server via the owncloud client, and that files would sync automatically (as they do on my other devices).
