exodii melee weapons/tools #80516
Conversation
Maybe some Exodii martial arts? Not bioku or whatever it's called, but an actual exodii martial art, like the army/police kind. |
with the exodii's last world being described as medieval, there's probably potential for some stranger historical / weird alt-history medieval weaponry in the armory. Oversized ahlspiesses, dueling shields and such. I like the Hammer and Cutter though. |
Exodii are less “elegant and caculated fighters” and more “brute MFing force it until it stops moving.” The weapons however are usable with martial arts if you're crazy enough. |
Okay I like this idea a lot. Shields are out of the question but that ahlspiesse gives me an idea for a hook weapon developed to fight against zombies rather than against armed opponents. |
I'm a bit wary on complex melee weapons, especially for a group as practical as Exodii. The main purpose of melee weapons would either be as bayonets, backup weapons, or pulping tools. I'll list my issues Trounce hammer: Feels a bit too much like those youtube videos "blank powered x". I don't think those would really be used in demolition at all. If you have constant power to a tool, you'd make a jackhammer, not a sledge hammer. Mountain cutter: Name just feels a bit misleading, I first thought it was gonna be a chainsaw or smth. Trianja: What purpose would the Exodii have to pinning a zombie down? If they have a weapon that can kill it, they'd just kill it. Sapper: Feels really unpractical, especially for a practical faction. Plasma would take a huge amount of power to make, and when it's using the same power that keeps (some) Exodii lungs running, it feels more like a liability than anything. Also doesn't sound very useful? Yes, plasma is very scary, but I don't think it could be effectively shaped into a useable blade. I think that the Exodii would do better with more hybrid-use melee weapons, like along halligan bars, jaws of life, or reciprocating saws. Having a bionic powered halligan bar would be amazing. |
It's not powered. The piston's entirely kinetic, with the force of the swing being what triggers it.
Come to think of it, "cleaver" or "claymore" would fit better than cutter. Mountain just refers to the size but I see now how someone can misinterpret it as something that cuts mountains. tbh the only reason it's named that is because of my mother...She read my Berserk copies after I told her about them and she told me "You said his sword was big but I didn't expect it to be a fucking mountain."
None! It's the same reason they're carrying that cataphract armor around, to sell it to people like the player.
there was a lot of intention behind me making the sapper but "practical" wasn't one of them, I knew it was going to be a hard sell. The blade isn't made of plasma, it's just heated by it. And for the power draw - it's not supposed to be on for anymore than a couple seconds at a time. Picture some Exodii (or even just the player) powering it up right before they swing it into something nasty like a skeletal juggernaut.
I share that line of thinking a lot, and I like your ideas. but I can see we both think differently on how they should be applied. I was going off the interpretation from #67797 with massive, heavy weapons. I'll have to tackle the rest of this tomorrow though. |
If there is a set of items they carry only to trade, i would assume they would pick something like a short sword, something that is much smaller than an entire trident |
I remember reading a code comment somewhere that said they should be selling the spear_heads_ rather than the entire spear. I could attempt something similar in the future. |
I had a rimworld binge after exams, just waiting for Kevin rn. |

Summary
Content "The Exodii sell melee weapons alongside their guns."
Purpose of change
The Exodii don't just use guns, they have melee weapons as well. Nine's dialogue implies such, we just don't have any as of now. After bouncing off my original ideas off of some other people's head I've been convinced that if they had melee weapons, they'd be heavy multipurpose tools they occasionally bash against zombies.
#67797 attempted something similar but it appears to be in limbo currently.
Describe the solution
Adds a couple melee weapons of varying type. I may add more but this is the current list.
L-Backswerda
Analogous to the Army bayonet.
Breacher
One of those hydraulic entry tools at the end of a metal bar. Meant for pulling apart cars/railway tracks/anything really and breaching doors rather than being a weapon, but it's sturdy enough to be pressed into clubbing zombies in a pinch. In my testing it cuts through rebar in 2 minutes, metal bars in 3 and railroad tracks in 8.
Sapper
A slightly larger tool fitted with a bucket-wheel styled sawblade that trades the breacher's high prying/metal sawing for the ability to dig through terrain like a jackhammer. As its name suggests it's meant for demolition and breaking into places rather than combat, and you can't use it like a chainsaw, so it's just a big club. Current power draw is 800 kJ per dig but that can be tweaked.
